Voor immigranten, door immigranten
Monthly magazine for Canadians and Americans of Dutch origin

Dutch, The Magazine

We are very excited to announce the launch of our new magazine, ‘DUTCH’. The first issue was mailed in late August 2011. Our seventh issue is currently being delivered across North-America and our first two issues have completely sold out.

DUTCH is a bi-monthly colour magazine in English with features about the Netherlands and the Dutch abroad. We will be searching for tracks and traces of ‘Dutch’ communities in North America and looking for the memories and mementos of a previous or current Dutch population. We will have a Dutch recipe, accompanied by an interesting article about the featured dish. We will help you find your Dutch ancestors by publishing short articles about genealogical resources in Holland and elsewhere and how to use them. We will have columnists based in The Netherlands and in North-America and for those of you who remember him: (Uncle) Brian Bramson is back and will be contributing to our magazine with his sharp and witty observations about life in Holland. And of course we will want to hear from you in your correspondence. In every issue you will find our 'Dutch Judge' comic and much more!

What our magazine will not be is predictable and stereotypical. There is enough windmill, tulip and wooden shoe material out there to bore us all to tears. Don’t misunderstand us, we have nothing against those defining features of the Dutch public image – we love them as much as the next person – and when the soccer world cup comes around we gladly slip on our orange clogs, but we do find that these images have become rather stale. That is not to say we will not write about them at all. Let’s pledge that we will write about tulips… when they’re eaten, and about windmills… when they’re fought.
